• Shopfront cleaning

One of the most visible improvements to our city centre this year has been the launch of our

dedicated shopfront cleaning programme. Working across four key streets in the heart of Wrexham, tackling

the build-up of grime, graffiti and street-level dirt that can give a poor first impression to visitors

and undermine confidence in the city centre.

Streets covered under the programme:

● Charles Street

● Regent Street

● Hope Street

● Bank Street

Member feedback on this initiative has been overwhelmingly positive, with businesses noting that cleaner

frontages have a direct impact on customer perceptions.

  • Paying for city centre radio network

This year, Wrexham BID stepped in to assume responsibility for the costs of the city centre radio network - a critical piece

of communications infrastructure used by retailers, security teams, and business owners to share information

and respond quickly to incidents.

Previously, the ongoing cost of maintaining this network fell to individual businesses.

By bringing it under the BID's budget, we've secured continuity of service and ensured that all connected businesses continue to benefit from this rapid communication tool - at no additional cost to them individually.

This is a practical, behind-the-scenes investment that directly supports safety and operational efficiency in the city centre.

  • Shopsafe crime intelligence network

Wrexham BID has introduced the ShopSafe crime intelligence platform at Eagles

Meadow, marking a significant step forward in how we tackle anti-social behaviour

and retail theft in the city centre.

ShopSafe is a shared intelligence platform that enables retailers to communicate

quickly about known offenders, ongoing incidents, and suspicious behaviour. By

connecting security teams and retail staff in real time, the platform empowers

businesses to act proactively rather than reactively — identifying repeat offenders,

preventing thefts before they happen, and ensuring that the right information reaches

the right people quickly.

The introduction of Shop Safe at Eagles Meadow represents the first phase of our

broader ambition for the platform. The results from this will inform the expansion of the network

across the wider city centre in the year ahead.

This expansion - due imminently - will connect more businesses,

cover more of the city, and significantly strengthen our collective response to ASB and retail theft.

  • Transforming the former QD store

Vacant units can have a significant negative visual impact on a city centre, sending a

signal of decline to visitors and undermining the confidence of surrounding

businesses. This year, Wrexham BID took action on one of the most prominent

vacant units in the city centre — the former QD store — by commissioning a striking

vinyl installation across the unit's frontage.

The designs we chose celebrate Wrexham as a city — drawing on local identity, civic

pride, and the unique character that makes our city centre special. Rather than a

blank, shuttered facade, visitors now encounter an eye-catching display that says

something positive about who we are and what Wrexham has to offer.

  • BID manager member visits

Relationships are at the core of what makes a BID effective, and this year Byron

Peters, Wrexham BID Manager, completed individual visits to BID member

businesses across the city centre.

These visits serve several purposes. They give members a direct opportunity to raise

concerns, share ideas, and provide feedback on BID activity. They allow the BID

Manager to understand the day-to-day realities faced by businesses — from footfall

challenges to anti-social behaviour, signage issues to engagement with events. And

they ensure that the BID remains genuinely accountable to the businesses that fund

and direct it.

If you have not yet had a visit from Byron, please do get in touch - we want to hear

from every member.

  • Street furniture and art installations

Wrexham BID will be investing in new street furniture and art installations across the

city centre, adding character, quality, and a sense of place to key locations.

These installations will complement the vinyl work already delivered at the former QD store

and form part of a longer-term vision to make Wrexham city centre feel distinctive,

welcoming, and worth visiting.

From improved seating to public art that tells the story of our city, these investments

will make the city centre a more enjoyable place to spend time - and a more

compelling destination for visitors from further afield.

  • Major summer event in July

In July, Wrexham BID will deliver a large event designed to attract visitors into the

city centre, encourage them to stay longer, discover more, and spend more with our

members.

This is also a significant opportunity for the BID to engage directly with its

membership - placing businesses front and centre.

The event has been designed with three clear objectives: drive footfall, increase

dwell time, and business engagement that reinforces Wrexham city centre as the

place to be. More details will be shared with members in the coming weeks.
